EGO - EGOISM (see SELFHOOD as well)
DD 0l EGO AND EGOISM (HP 152)
Our use of these terms is not to be confused with contemporary psychological terminology. Egoism misuses Mind through the construction of selfish desires, through base emotions, greed, malice and envy. The Ego (with capital E) is the Self as Beingness, our Self-aware Soul nature, and is reflected through a reasoning and loving personality. While egoism (the some total of unbridled elementals) is the source of disease throughout the personality, the nation and the world, our Ego nature brings forth love, compassion, reasoned thinking and reasoned action.
ET 38 In the gross material body, the Holy Spirit works beneath conscious awareness, but it cooperates consciously in building within the permanent personality the phenomenon of self-knowledge and self-awareness, which we call the ego self.
However, the Ego --with capital E-- is not what the personality interprets as the self. Our self-awareness in the worlds of separation is both Holy Spiritual and Logoic in its expression.
FH 82 Killing egotism is essential for a healer.
FH 210 The Present Personality has not Self-Consciousness, because it is entrapped within over-nourished egotism.
FH 213 Our sentiments are like mud, emotions mixed with temporal passion of hatred, resentment, likes and dislikes, sympathies and antipathies.
FH 214 Today's sentiments which are nothing more than the satisfaction of an over-developed egotism, which must be replaced with a true expression of Love.
